PES Olympics Day 2016
Last week the whole school went outside onto the Pt England School field. We made the Olympics rings by standing in circles and putting plates over our heads. I was the red plate. Then our teacher Mr Baxendine and Mr Somerville flew a drone over us and videoed the Olympic rings.
We also spent the day in teams where we had to compete in 7 different games. They were a bit hard but the hardest one was the Tug of war and football. My favourite bit was Dodgeball, Handball and Volleyball. It was funny when I fell over at Volleyball.

Team 4 - Science Exploration Day! Dry Ice
Today, we had a day where we busted myths! We had a lot of fun experimenting to learn about the scientific method and changes between solids, liquids, and gases.
In these first 3 photos, we showed a build up of gas as the dry ice went through sublimation by created a detergent bubble over the bucket.
DRY ICE AND WARM WATER
Here, we added dry ice to water to show the release of a gas during sublimation.
BLOWING UP A BALLOON
In these photos, we compared a balloon which had been blown up by using our breath (left), and a balloon which had been blown up by the gas created using dry ice (right). The balloon on the right was much heavier so it hit the ground first when dropped. You can also see that the balloon on the left is see-through where as the one on the right is not.
EXPLORING THE RESULT OF DRY ICE, WARM WATER, AND DETERGENT
Today we were doing rotations we had 3 rotation this is the last rotation I came too. In this rotation we were using dried ice and applying it to warm water.
We completed a 3-way rotation. In these photos, we are exploring sublimation (changing from a solid to a gas). We used dry ice to show this change in state through a number of experiments.
SAFETY
Did you know that dry ice is a solid and has a temperature of -78.5 degrees celsius? That is 78.5 degrees colder than frozen water (ice)!
It is so cold that whoever handles the dry ice has to wear gloves to protect their hands from the cold!

| We then explored the result of mixing detergent, warm water and dry ice. It created a foam made up of lots of bubbles which turned into a gas when popped! STUDENT LEARNING We finished by creating a blog post showing our learning. Check out Ayla's learning here! |

Ch...Ch...Ch...Ch...Changes!
Ch...Ch...Ch...Ch...Changes!
This term we are looking at science - the material world. So that means we are going to be Myth Busters and perform a lot of science experiments focussing on the changing states or matter, especially looking at solids, liquids and gases. It's going to be very exciting!

Pick a Path Stories
This week we have been writing our own pick a path stories. It was lots of fun coming up with some crazy ideas and different paths for our stories. Here are a few of our stories.

Nytram's P.E.S Olympics Wheelbarrow Race
Nytram @ Pt England School: P.E.S Olympics Wheelbarrow Race
WALT: write an interesting recount by writing about our feelings and the feelings of others.
WALT: group ideas into paragraphs.
On Tuesday I was confused when I saw a wheelbarrow in the class. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. Would we be going to the horse’s paddock to pick up hay from the farm or doing some tidying up around the school. I was feeling nervous because I didn’t know what we were going to do. However I was also excited because I love a challenge or an adventure. We then found out that we were going to have a wheelbarrow race.
The wheelbarrow race uses people’s bodies to act like a wheelbarrow. We pair up with partners and one person carries the other person. During the race, the girls was watching the 1st race of the boys. When the race started there was people falling down and people dragging their team mate to the finish line. The person who was carrying the other person was getting tired, sweaty and weak.
It was cheating because they used the wheelbarrow I felt angry because the boys had to use their hands. After my race Mr Baxendine chose Devontae to go into the wheelbarrow with a gopro on his head. Then the other boys had to race. Devontae was in the wheelbarrow. When the race started, Mr Bax and Devontae was going so fast and all the boys were go slow, It was not fair for the boys.
